Senior Championship - Sunday 22 June 2008 at Tir Chonaill Park
Tara 7-6 v 3-6 Croydon
Following on from last weeks victory, Tara won the toss and opted to play with the strong wind which may well have been the determining factor for todays victory.Tara capitalised on the strong wind and it was the Galway girls that took the first half scoring chances. For Tara the Galway duo of Rosie Naughton and Denise Gilligan each notched up 2 goals on the scorecard whilst for Croydon Aisling Tuohy scored 1-1 and Tara went in happiest up 5-3 to 1-2 at half time.
Second half Tara had to defend the strong wind and not to let Croydon back into the game. Tara conceded a goal but got back to business with a reply by Niamh Pentony. Croydon followed up with another but Taras influential Bid Greenan, connected with a Rosie Naughton free, netting Taras 5th . Croydon kept battling and Anne Marie Dwyer took some nice scores from play as well as frees, despite efforts from Meabh Brennan. In defence Rosita Harvey was in good form knocking balls out and Tara’s goalie Jacqui Thornton managed to keep any more chances at bay. Grace Hamilton at wing forward scored a point from play and then managed to kick one past the keeper in a goal mouth scramble. Final score Tara 7-6 - Croydon 3-6.
Some say that Taras senior victory over Fr Murphys last week was a shock result so what to make of their win over Croydon? For sure it means the competition is wide open and the semi-finals will be determined next weekend following the Bros Pearse v Croydon game.
Tara: Jacqueline Thornton, Louise Clarke, Mags Heneghan, Orlaith Maguire, Eimear O Connor, Rosie Cusack, Sheila Fernandes, Bid Grennan ((1-1), Meabh Brennan, Grace Hamilton (1-1), Colette Fahy, Joanne Hamilton, Denise Gilligan (2-3, 2f), Rosie Naughton (2-1), Niamh Pentony (1-0)
Junior Championship - Saturday 21 June at Ladywell
Green Isle 1-2 v 9-8 Tara
Tara travelled to Green Isles and collected the Championship points following a good team display. Green Isles are tough competitors and would be seen as real Championship Final contenders but were slow off the mark allowing Joanne Hamilton to point and Niamh Pentony & Sheila Fernandes a goal each early on. Eileen O’Boyle is a great player and she worked hard to settle Green Isles and get them back into the game. Tara’s Christina Nash, hailing from Killarney Co Kerry, not yet a camogie stronghold, played her first camogie game today and what a debut, being paired against Eileen O Boyle. Grace Hamilton scored 1-1 and Denise Gilligan 0-2 to take Tara ahead at half time.
Green Isles introduced Geri Guinan into centre half forward, another great player and herself and Aimee Curtin had a good battle throughout. Mags Heneghan in the Tara back line was superb in clearing balls all round . Denise Gilligan scored 2-2 in the second half at centre forward but also created space and knocked balls into the forward line. Niamh Pentony scored a further 3 trademark goals to give Tara the victory. Next week Tara play Fr Murphys at Greenford on Sunday
Tara: Jacqueline Thornton, Mags Heneghan, Louise Clarke, Eimear O Connor, Aimee Curtin, Sheila Fernandes, Catherine Dwyer, Christina Nash, Joanne Hamilton, Grace Hamilton, Denise Gilligan, Niamh Pentony

Tara 4-6 v Fr Murphys 1-4
Bid Grennan's 1-4 ensured Tara overcame Fr Murphys in the Senior Championship at Greenford on Sunday.
From the outset Tara set the early pace and piled the pressure on Murphy's defense and when Denise Gilligan found Rosie Naughton, Rosie had no trouble in finding the back of the Murphys net.
A point each by Tara Captain Ann Gleeson and Bid Grennan saw Tara take a commanding lead. Aussie Rosie Cusack played a stormer at centre back cutting off much supply to the dangerous Laureena Murphy, who still manged to score two great points from play. Bid Grennan came into the fore again and knocked a ball into Niamh Pentony at corner forward and Pentony made no mistake in putting it over the bar. Grennan herself scored a superb point from the 45 area after blocking down a Murphys attack taking Tara into half time up 1-4 to 0-2.
Half time is always tricky and on the resumption Tara lost their focus for a couple of minutes allowing Murphys a goal; but Tara were adamant they werent letting the lead go and Grennan stepped up to the mark and pointed from play. Liz McGrath for Murphys replied with a point of her own despite Mags Heneghan's efforts to keep her out.
At a pivotal stage in the game where the next score would give either team the upper hand and perhaps the momentum to push on and win the game, Grennan found herself in acres of space, ran at the defense and rattled the net to give Tara a bit more breathing space.
Grennan pointed again but any chance for Murphys to resurrect this game was firmly put to bed ten minutes from the end of the game with a goal each from Tara's Niamh Pentony and Rosie Naughton.
It was a resilient Tara team on show today with each one competing in their own personal battles. The Senior Championship is wide open now and the coming weeks will surely be interesting.

Tara 3-3 v Croydon 0-3 : Junior Championship
Tara opened their Junior Championship campaign with a win over Croydon in Greenford on Saturday. Sheila Fernandes opened the scoring for Tara with a point before Joanne Hamilton found the back of the net twice followed by a sweet point. Croydon’s Bridget Hehir pointed from a 45 but Tara’s Maebh Brennan also pointed to take Tara ahead 2-3 to 0-1 going in at half time. Croydon, even with a player short, battled hard throughout the game and with a few half time changes sturdier up their defense to keep Tara almost scoreless apart from Eimear O Connor’s great goal. Croydon scored 2 points from play through Mel Hoare and Rita Cribbon but their forwards could get past the Tara back and in particular Mags Heneghan at full and Jacqueline Thornton in goal.

Tara Camogie Progress to Championship Semis following Play-off
Tara 4-1 v 3-0 Erin go Bragh
Sunday 23 September 2007 at Tir Chonaill Park, Greenford
After a an exciting game at Tir Chonaill Park, Tara Camogie Junior team secured their place in the Championship semi final after a 4-1 to 3-0 win over Erin go Bragh of Birmingham.
With both teams on level points the play-off was to determine the last semi finalist in the Junior championship competition.
Honours even so far between these two with Erin go Bragh winning the Championship game in Birmingham in April and Tara taking the spoils in the League fixture in Greenford, so all
to play for.
Tara started well with a shot from Tricia Dempsey blocked and Niamh Pentony's trademark goal ruled out as a square ball. The Birmingham girls got into the game quickly too and with their great blend of youth and the experienced and skillful players in the three Boxwell sisters, Geraldine Boxwell found the back of the net from a well taken free.
Annie Boxwell in goal was under some good pressure from the Tara forwards, with Alex O Brien and Niamh Pentony crossing in some great balls, but Tara forwards failing to connect.
Jacqueline Thornton in the Tara goal made a terrific save from a Helen Boxwell shot but could not get to the Geraldine Boxwell's strike from midfield a few mintues later. Tara fought straight back and Tricia Dempsey scored a goal reducing the Erin go Bragh lead going into half time to 2-0 to 1-0.
The second half saw Tara playing down hill and with the wind, which seemed to have picked up. Joanne Hamilton scored a great point from play followed by Niamh Pentony's brace of goals without reply to give Tara the edge.
Although Tara had taken the lead, Birmingham had by no means given up. Following a slight injury to Mags Heneghan, who was having a great contest with Helen Boxwell, Tara had a reshuffle seeing Mags replacing Jacqueline Thornton in goal and Eimear O Connor move out to mark Geraldine Boxwell. Grace and Joanne Hamilton were in the thick of everything and Joanne, also returning from injury, scored a goal for Tara to increase the lead to 4-1 to 2-0. Geraldine Boxwell replied with a goal of her own but it wasn't enough for the Birmingham gals.
Tara now wait for the semi final draw but will be pleased with great performances today; goalie Jacqueline Thornton with Aine Breen in front of her, Eimear O Connor and Mags Heneghan's great battles against the Boxwells, hardworking Joanne and Grace Hamilton, and top strikes and crosses from Niamh Pentony and Alex O Brien; and with Tricia Dempsey's ability to take a score, should all fair well for Tara in the next round.
Erin go Bragh were well served by the Boxwell sisters, Kelsie and Shannon to name but a few. The majority of the Birmingham girls are still only under 18 and learnt their trade through the Erin go Bragh ranks, so credit to them all. Tara too had a good blend of youth on show today. Karen Curtin, Orla McCormick, Julie Curtin, Orla Devereaux and Aoife O Grady, making her debut, range in age from 14 years to 17 years also.
Tara squad: Jacqueline Thornton, Louise Clark, Aine Breen, Eimear O Connor, Mags Heneghan, Orla McCormack, Joanna Hamilton, Grace Hamilton, Alex O Brien, Tricia Dempsey, Niamh Pentony, Karen Curtin. Orla Deveraux, Julie Curtin, Aoife O Grady.
Both teams met earlier in the year in the league which resulted in a draw so a close encounter was expected. Pearces took the only scores of the first half from frees through Sadie McCarthy but Tara forwards of Karen Curtin and Tricia Dempsey were unlucky not to find the target. Second half Tara started well and were able to score 2-1 from play through Jacinta Clerkin without reply. Pearses managed to pull back 1-1 from 45's in the dying minutes before referee Emma McDade blew up.
Final score Tara 2-1 to 1-3 BP. Tara were best served by scorer Jacinta Clerkin, Tricia Dempsey, Cepie Clerkin and Rosie Cusack whilst Pearses Sadie McCarthy, Nicky O Neill and Nora Murphy caused Tara most problems.
Tara Squad: Mags Heneghan, Cepie Clerkin, Eimear O Connor, Mairead Carroll, Louise Clarke, Ann Breen, Rosie Cusack, Sarah Macken, Jacinta Clerkin, Jacqueline Thornton, Tricia Dempsey, Karen Curtin, Orla Coulter, Aimee Curtin.

Junior Championship Final 2006 : Tara v Green Isles
Junior Championship Final - Ladywell Park ~ Green Isle 2 – 7 , Tara 0 –3 ~ 30th Sept 2006 ~ Ref Kieren Kelly
Green Isle Camogie Club are celebrating their first Junior Championship title after an exciting match at Ladywell Park on 30th September. The many supporters were treated to some fine display of Camogie in a fair and sporting contest.
Tara had a young and relatively inexperienced team in that many of the double winners of 2004 were regraded to senior status. The girls from West London in the blue and white were well deserving of their place in the final though having put last year’s title holders Bros Pearses out of the competition at semi final stage.
Green Isle were hungry for success after being the runners-up in last years final and were determined not to let that happen again. They scored a point in the first couple of minutes and by the time Tara girls made their first attack Green Isles had registered 1-2. Tara soon settled and with Caitriona O’Brien’s great work rate in midfield and her point, Tara held Green Isles to just a further 2 points before half time.
The second half continued in much the same vein. Tara’s full back Aimee Curtin cleared a great amount of ball and goalie Rebecca Purcell pulled off some fantastic saves, evident from the number of 45’s Green Isles earned. Green Isles continued to dominate in areas with Eileen O Boyle and Michelle McClafferty in particular combining well in midfield.
In the final minutes of the game Green Isle captain Michelle McClafferty had the final say when her sideline puck went straight past everyone and into the back of the net to secure Green Isle’s Junior Championship title. Significant scores for Green Isle came from Eleanor Yoxall, Fidelma Hegarty and 2004 All-Star recipient Eileen O’Boyle. Rebecca Purcell, Aimee Curtin Landy and Caitriona O Brien in particular had excellent performances for Tara today.
Etty Kelly, President of Camogie in London, presented the cup to Michelle McClafferty, who paid tribute to Tara for sporting match, referee Ciaran Kelly, sponsors and supporters.
Tara: Rebecca Purcell, Aimee Curtin Landy, Shaunagh Faughnan, Eimear O Connor, Louise Clarke, Mags Heneghan (C), Catherine Foley, Caitriona O Brien, Niamh Pentony, Mairead Carroll, Karen Kelly, Sarah Macken, Georgina McNamara, Mayra Gallardo, Kate Brennan, Sinead Doherty, Ceire Doherty, Lizzy O Connell.
Junior Finalists - will be back next year.
Juniors advance to Championship Final : Semi Final - Tara 7-1 v 5-5 BPearse : 25 July 2006.
Tara Camogie Club are celebrating this week having secured their place in the Junior Championship County Final with a well deserved victory over local rivals Brothers Pearse Camogie Club 7-1 to 5-5 at Tir Chonaill Park, Greenford last Tuesday evening. Tara were 1st on the scoreboard with a goal from Gemma Adair but within minutes Emma Taylor (Brothers Pearse) replied with an excellently executed hand pass into the back of the Tara net.
Catriona O’Brien (Tara) and Suzanne Deasy (Brothers Pearse) were anxious to get on the scoreboard and answered the early goals with a point each in a matter of minutes. Further goals from Tara forwards Shauna Faughan, Louise Clarke and Niamh Pentony gave the girls in blue some breathing space but Brothers Pearse continued to convert many of their scoring opportunities with further scores from Emma Taylor & Suzanne Deasy during the first half. Caitriona O’Brien and Mairead Carroll combined well in midfield and in the half forward line Kate Brennan and Karen Kelly worked tirelessly to cause problems for the Brothers Pearse defence throughout the game.
In the dying minutes and with only two points separating the teams, Brothers Pearse were looking for that all elusive final goal and victory by a single point. Two last minute attempts at goal from the 45 yard line were saved dramatically by Tara goalkeeper Rebecca Purcell and a backline which included good individual performances from Eimear O’Connor, Margaret Howard and Aimie Curtin. When the final whistle blew the elation was clear to see and Tara Camogie Club look forward to their 1st Championship appearance in 2 years, having lifted the cup for the last time when they won the Junior Double in 2004. Watch this space!
