On a glorious day in London the first round of the championship kicked off with Tara taking on Croydon in Greenford. It was clear this was going to be a real battle with two strong sides taking the field. With Tara down a player and the sun beaming down, Croydon got off to a great start with a goal from Christine Roache. The Tara back line Niamh Murphy, Dearbhail O Rourke, Joni Traynor and the experienced Sheila Fernandes defended extremely well with Croydon really applying the pressure. Three more points from Tara mid fielder Anna Nyhan followed shortly, two 45s and one from play. This left the two teams all square at half time, Tara 4 points to Croydons one goal and one point.
With the late and welcomed arrival of Taras Orla Tynan at half time it was anyones game again with Tara at full strength. Croydon again got a goal in the first five minutes from a high ball from Ni Neill dropping past the Tara line but this Tara team were not finished yet. A point from Nyhan was followed by another point from Fenton. Tara mid fielders Creamer, Nyhan and Mooney were pushing ball up to the Tara forwards and Mary Fenton found the back of the net midway through the second half.
