Tara Camogie Club London
  Junior Team 2011

Again for 2011 Tara Juniors were considerably weaken by a fair few players been upgraded to Senior.

Nevertheless our Junior squad started off the year by winning our own 7s in April, by beating local rivals BPearses in a good competitive final.

The Junior team went on to reach the Junior League Final on 21st May and played the ould enemy from Birmingham, John Mitchells. Louise Holland of Cork ruined Tara 's day again by having another stormer in centre half back in what was our Captai Denise Mooney's last game before jetting off to Auz. Not long after Aileen Bradley had finished her assignment and returned back to Derry.

Depiste the departure of 2 keys players, the Championship started well with wins over MCusacks & BPearses. Come semi-final stage though Mitchells were again the nemises with a home victory for them and some strange decisions by a certain bearded man.

2012 will be a new year with new challenges and we will be ready.

Our club welcomes new players/members to our Junior squad so even if you havent played camogie in a while (or ever) and fancy playing a good competitive team sport in London, then do contact us.

London Junior Camogie League

Saturday 7th May 2011

Tara 4-2 v 1-4 John Mitchells

Tara Camogie Club have reached the Junior League semi-final following a hard-fought win over last years championship winners, John Mitchells at Greenford on Saturday.

Tara got on the scoreboard early with a long range-goal from centre-forward Aileen Bradley, followed by a well taken point from sharp-shooter and captain Denise Mooney.  Although only starting the game with 11 players, Birminghams John Mitchells battled hard and put Taras backline of Susi Gill, Dearbhaill O Neill, Maria Casey and Katie Jones to the test.  However Taras defence stood solid conceeding just 1-2 in the first half.  Taras midfield trio of Sheila Fernandes, Jennifer Tomb and Lindsey Shanks worked tirelessly to contain a very physical and skillful Mitchells side with Sheila's hard work in the centre paying off with a beautiful long range point just before the interval which left Tara just two points ahead at half-time.

Tara started off the second half well, with full forward Denise Mooney and corner-forwards Ciara O Shea and Karen O Connor combining well.  Karen O Connors two well-struck goals followed by a lovely point from Mooney extended Taras lead, and the introduction of corner forward Janine O Gorman provided an alternative attacking option.  However Taras dominance was short-lived with Mitchells scoring two further points and threatening the Tara goal throughout the second half. If it wasnt for the resilience of the Tara defence and  "Player of the match" performance from Tara goalie Janine O Neill, who was outstanding between the posts, the scoreline could have been much closer.  Tara won out 4-2 to 1-4 winners in the end after a tightly-contested game against a gallant Mitchells side and in particular Noelle Devlin, Lisa Kearns, Mairead Hogan (0-4, 3f) and Martina Cunniffe.

Tara:  Janine O Neill, Dearbhail O Neill, Susi Gill, Maria Casey, Katie Jones, Lyndsey Shanks, Sheila Fernandes, Jennifer Tomb, Denise Mooney, Aileen Bradley, Karen O Connor, Ciara O Shea.  Subs: Janine Gorman, Tina Enright.

Tara top their group whilst Mitchells come in second and both teams await the 3-way play-off in the other group involving Bros Pearse, Croydon and Green Isles, which should be decided by Wednesday evening. Semi finals are fixed for Saturday 14th April with Finals the following week.

League - Saturday 2nd April 2011
Tara
5-6 v 0-1 MCusack

Tara Camogie Club kicked off their junior campaign with an emphatic win over Michael Cusacks on Saturday.

After losing last years Championship final to Birminghams John Mitchels and failing to reach the League final, Tara Camogie Club were determined to get this year off to a winning start. However with the loss of midfielder Emer Fahy to regrading and seven Tara players to new club Cusacks, it was a very different team lining out on Saturday.

Despite this, Tara were ahead from the start, putting Cusacks under pressure immediately. Midfielder Sheila Fernandes with American new comers Lindsey Shanks and Jennifer Tomb worked well together to get the ball up to the forwards. Denise Mooney got Tara on the scoreboard first with a fine point, followed by a goal by Fernandes. Dearbhail O Neill and Michelle Adair marshalled the Tara defence, making sure any threat from Cusacks was easily dealt with.

Despite the hard work rate by Tara , with the strong wind they were guilty of many wides, but scored another point before half time courtesy of Denise Mooney.

Cusacks Catherine Dwyer worked tirelessly in midfield but with Taras Niamh Dolan brought out from full back, the blue and whites picked it up a notch in the second half; Dolan herself scoring 2 points. The Tara backs had a quiet second half but the ever dependable Susanna Gill, ably assisted by versatile Janine Heagney who moved to corner back from forwards, ensured any threats were immediately dealt with before they troubled goalkeeper Linda Cummins.

Aileen Bradley scored a point and won a 45 but Mooney, despite being tightly marked, stepped it up a gear and scored a couple of great goals after some good link up work with Bradley. Cusacks only score by Catherine Dwyer was from a free but with Fernandes scoring another goal, followed by a couple of Mooney points, Tara's lead out of reach for the girls in red and yellow. Tara's super sub Rachel Hawkins, on her camogie debut, scored a goal just before the final whistle to cap off a superb win for Tara .

Ciara O Shea put in a good performance when she came on in the second half while spectators wouldn t have guessed US girls Lindsey Shanks and Jennifer Tomb are new to camogie with both putting in impressive debuts for the Tara team. Similarly Melissa Curran, Tina Enright and super sub Rachel Hawkins - all put in assured performances despite never playing the game before.
