Tara v Croydon
Tara retained the League Shield following a close encounter with Croydon.

All Ireland Championship - Junior Camogie Quarter Finals 2010
Saturday 16 October 2010 at Ruislip GAA Grounds

Tara (London) v Four Roads (Roscommon)
Tara Camogie Club’s hopes of reaching the All Ireland Junior Club Semi Final ended abruptly in Ruislip on Saturday afternoon (16.10.10).

After beating local rivals Father Murphy’s in the London Championship Final in July, TCC were hoping to avenge last year’s All Ireland Quarter Final defeat to Four Roads, Roscommon. However the long gap between competitive games for Tara was evident from the start as they lacked the sharpness of their Connacht rivals.

Four Roads were on the attack immediately with Tara goalkeeper Kathleen Noone forced into making a save within the first minute. A clearance from the Tara defence only went as far as the visitors’ Niamh Coyle who opened the scoring with a point. More pressure from Four Roads followed leading to second and third points in quick succession while Denise Gilligan put a free wide – an unusual occurrence for the Tara sharpshooter.

Captain Bridget Grennan pushed forward to midfield to add pressure leading to a period where Tara kept the ball in the Four Roads half but failed to convert. Caroline Kelly and Maebh Brennan had an incredible work rate in midfield, trekking back to defend and also providing the forwards with support but overall the home team would not have been happy at the break with their lethargic first half performance. Another point and a late goal left it 1-4 to no score at the end of the first half.

In the second half TCC finally came to life and were on the attack from the start. Coach Brian Mansfield moved Rosie Cusack into centre half forward where she caused headaches for Roscommon team’s defence, while Kelly continued attacking all the time. However Four Roads quickly got a second goal putting the Londoners on the back foot once again.

Gilligan converted a free either side of a Four Roads point, bringing the score to 2-5 to 0-2. Despite some spectacular solo runs from Grennan into the Four Roads back line, the only other Tara score came from a Gilligan point. Although Tara battled valiantly until the bitter end, two goals in quick succession for the visitors killed off the game. A last minute penalty for Tara was too late to make any difference and the game ended 4-5 to 0-3.

London Senior Championship Final 2010 PREVIEW- Tara Win
Saturday 3rd July 2010 at 5.30pm at Ruislip GAA Grounds

Tara v Murphys

Tara Camogie Club are gearing up to defend their London Senior Championship title against Father Murphy’s at Ruislip on Saturday (July 3rd).

Coach Brian Mansfield will be looking to influential club and county captain, Kilkenny’s Bridget Grennan to lead by example in Tara ’s quest to win a second consecutive championship final.

With 14 players on the London County panel, Tara have a strong squad but are anticipating a tough match against Murphy’s. Despite a relatively smooth path to the final with high scoring wins against Croydon, Brothers Pearse and Murphy’s, Mansfield is taking nothing for granted. He said “Our championship form counts for nothing now. Fr. Murphy's are tough opponents, who we have great respect for. But we have 60 minutes to realise our goal, which we set at the end of last year. The preparation is done, the hard work has been put in and it's all down to us on the day to see it through”.

Grennan agrees that it will be a tough match saying "The addition of Sandra Martin, who missed many of the league games is a big boost for Murphy’s. Also Brenda Kerr is back from injury. You underestimate Murphy’s at your peril. Two year ago we did and Murphy’s beat us well. They are always fit tough opponents and Saturday is going to be no different. We need to get out of the starting blocks quick because if Murphy’s get a momentum going anything could
happen."

Tara will be relying on the prowess of Kilkenny duo Angela Kenneally and Helen Murphy up front, along with sharp shooter Joanne Hamilton (Antrim) and free taker Denise Gilligan (Galway ) who between them accounted for 11 of London’s points against Carlow on June 19th.

The Tara team has undergone a number of changes from last year’s winning side losing players to travelling and other circumstances. In the new look Tara side Galway’s Kathleen Noone takes over in goal while captain Grennan moves to centre back. Tara have also managed to recruit some exciting new players to their panel and Galway natives Caroline Kelly, Denise Mooney, Niamh Dolan and Emer Fahy are welcome additions along with Cork ’s Noirin Mulcahy, Meath’s Michelle Adair and Karen Fitzpatrick from Cavan.

Tara can also rely on the experiences of a number of players who took part in last year’s championship including county panelists Vice Captain Ann Gleeson (Tipperary), Anne Digan (Offaly), Maebh Brennan (Cork), Danika Harrison (Clare), Australian Rosie Cusack who scored a hat –trick against Carlow along with Colette Fahy and Sheila Fernandes (Galway) and Susannah Gill ( London).
