ALL IRELAND JUNOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL |
||||
| Tara, formed in 1986, is steeped in history particularly in the late 80's and early 90's when they dominated the London scene. With a relatively long fairly quiet spell in between, since 2008 Tara are definately firmly back in the history books. With the win over Ruairi Og at the weekend Tara progress to the All-Ireland Junior Club semi-finals. This Tara team are the first London team as far as we are aware to make it past All-Ireland Quarter Final stage. Tara now go on to represent Ulster and will play Leinster champions in a couple of weeks in London. Further details to follow when available. |

ALL IRELAND CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW Tara, as Senior Champions, will represent London in the All Ireland Club Championship, at quarter final stage and play Ulster champions Ruari Og on Sunday 30th October 2011 at 12 noon in Cushendall. Four Tara girls will return to their native counties this weekend. Sisters Joanne & Grace Hamilton hail from up the road in Cushendun. Both joined Tara back in 2007 and have helped the club go on to win a hat-trick of senior championships since 2008. Rachel Hawkins (Belfast) is a relatively newcomer to camogie whilst Joni Traynor of Loughgiel only joined Tara a couple of months ago since arriving in London to study Law.
Tara have been the on form team in London this year, making it a double winning the Senior Championship and Senior League finals. With a strong panel Tara’s manager Ambrose Gordon (Galway) has a tough time narrowing the panel down to 22. This will be a mammoth challenge for the girls in blue and white however they have stepped up to the challenge so far. Intensity has been upped in training over the last few weeks and everyone has been through their paces.
Up front Captain Denise Gilligan will be leading the Tara attack. Free taker and goal scorer Gilligan will need to be on form for Tara . Sharp shooters Angela Kenneally and Joanne Hamilton will also be relied on to control the half forward line.
Tara will also be hoping that the flu which has swept through the team and kept 3 girls from the last few training sessions doesn’t inflict any further damage. Janine O'Neill who broke her arm in a recent league game has just had her cast removed so may also be a doubt.
Unlike their opponents, Tara are made up of a collection of girls from all over Ireland , America , Australia and London . Tara will go in as underdogs to this game - a title that suits the blue and white. With a strong panel everyone will play their part and Tara will be hopeful that it will be third time lucky to make it through to the semi finals.

| SENIOR LEAGUE 2011 ~ Tara Crowned Champions |
||||
A re-run of the Senior Championship Camogie final took place in Poulter Park last Saturday. This time however it was clear that Croydon were out for revenge having lost the Championship final in July allowing Tara to make it 3 in a row. Tara's goalkeeper Niamh Dolan made some premier league style saves but a could do little against an Anne Marie Dwyer's fire cracker of a shot gliding past her soon after rebounding off Tara's Susi Gill's shoulder in to the top corner of the Tara net. Kenneally, Murphy and Gilligan took points to give Tara a 2-4 to 1-3 lead at half time. |

Tara claim Championship Title and 3-in-a-row
Tara's Denise Gilligan's was first on the scoreboard with a well converted free - in fact Gilligan didn’t miss a free all game and converted 5 in total. Gilligan was in action a few minutes later when she pounced on a ball from Rosie Cusack and fired it into the back of Croydon's net, past goalie Sarah Allen.
Croydon started very lively though and piled pressure on Tara 's backs and Sharon McNeela earned herself a free, which she duly converted. Mary Dalton then made a burst through the Tara defence and shot at goal but Tara goalie Niamh Dolan was in fine form as usual and made a great save to deny Dalton. At the other end Tara 's Yvonne Donnelly had a fine effort saved but Helen Murphy & Meabh Brennan scored a point each from play. McNeela then put another free over the bar for Croydon before half time.
All year Tara have been a second half team and this final was no different. Gilligan and Angela Kenneally got their scoring boots on and shared seven successive points between them; but they were made to work for their scores with dogged performances from O’Donoghue and captain Dunphy. Croydon's A Dempsey did get on the scoresheeet with a point from play but any ball that was getting up into Tara's half was sent straight back down with fine defensive performances from the half back line.
Further points from Gilligan and Kenneally and two fantastic saves by Sarah Allen from Joanne Hamilton's attempts concluded the final on a baking hot day, where Tara finished 1-13 to 0-3 and a deserved hat-trick of championship successes.
The Player of the Match award was presented by Sponsor Ambrose Gordon of The Man of Aran to Tara's captain Denise Gilligan. Close contenders included both goal keepers and Tara 's No. 6 Bid Grennan.

London Senior Championship 2011 ~ Final Saturday 30th July 2011 at 1pm ~ Preview |
||||
| Tara's will be fearful of a showdown with Croydon and despite beating them earlier in the group stages, Croydon were missing a number of crucial players and conditions were atrocious. The Championship could be anyone's on any given day. The pressure is weighing heavy on Tara's shoulders however. Not only are they defending their title, they are vying for three in a row and a place to play in Irelands Junior championship. Marred by injury however this will be no easy task. Strangely given London's revolving door, Tara's are a side not all that different to last year. Tara's will be relying on sharp shooters Denise Gilligan (Craughwell, Galway) who is the Tara captain flanked by sisters and Joanne Hamilton and Grace Hamilton (Antrim) Yvonne Donnelly (Craughwell Galway) and Kilkenny duo Helen Murphy and Angela Kenneally. An Aussie tower of strength in Rosie Cusack partners Meabh Brennan (Cork) in the middle of the park who makes up in skill and speed for what she lacks in height! Like the forward line, the backs are a mix of North and South too with Ann Gleeson (Tipperary) lining out with Catherine Higgins (Derry) and Kilkennys Bid Grennan in a sweeper role. Protecting Niamh Dolan (Craughwell, Galway) in the Tara goal is Niamh Keating (Limerick) with wing women Susi Gill (London) and Sheila Fernandes (Castlegar, Galway). Coach Ambrose has a tough task of picking the team however with newcomers to the fold Dearbaill O'Neill (Down) and Donna Gallery (Limerick) fighting for a place. Will the Tara experience get them through? Only time will tell. Throw in 1pm. All support welcome! |

| London Senior Championship 2011 ~ Semi Final Tara through to the Final Saturday 23rd July at Tir Chonaill Park Tara 3-17 v 1-03 Bros Pearse |
||||
Tara's are through to their third senior championship camogie final in a row after beating Brothers Pearse in an epic encounter in Greenford. They have set up a final on Saturday in Ruislip against Croydon who beat Fr Murphy's in the second semi final. Taras will need to up their performance to the tenth degree however as the score line was more a result of luck than skill. The game was scrappy from start to finish and Brothers Pearse were all over Tara's in the first half. Therese Doyle was a tower of strength in the Pearse's goal and led the charge with some mighty fine puck outs setting up a battle of wills in the middle of the park between Tara's Rosie Cusack and Meabh Brennan and Pearses Aine Sheehan and Bronwyn Keeshan. Despite being sluggish and caught in possession on one too many occasion, Tara's got the sliotar in to the forward line. Angela Kenneallys work rate was exceptional and with feeds from forwards Yvonne Donnelly and Grace Hamilton Denise Gilligan put two goals on the board and Joanne Hamilton one. The Pearse's were never done though and the Murphy sisters Christine and Jean were a dangerous combination when the sliotar was in the Tara's half. The final score was 3-17 to 1-03 but Tara's have a lot of work to do in 7 days given a stark statistic of having put 18 wide! Tara: Niamh Dolan, Susi Gill, Niamh Keating, Sheila Fernandes, Catherine Higgins, Bid Grennan, Ann Gleeson, Rosie Cusack, Meabh Brennan, Donna Gallery, Joanne Hamilton, Angela Kenneally, Grace Hamilton, Denise Gilligan, Yvonne Donnelly, Helen Murphy. Brothers Pearse Therese Doyle, Frances O'Neill, Niamh Pilkington, Nicola Falvey, Evelyn McCaffrey, Breda Walsh, Pauline Woods, Roisin O Brien, Bronwyn Keeshan, Aine Sheehan, Christine Murphy, Jean Murphy, Ann Cumiskey, Katie Starr, Ciara McDermot, Patricia Nooney, Anne Marie Thornton. | London Senior Championship 2011 ~ Round 3 Saturday 16th July at Mitcham Tara 5-7 v 0-1 Croydon |
||||
| Tara Camogie Club braced the field on Saturday in monsoon conditions against Croydon in the last round of the championship before the semi finals next Saturday. The conditions in Poulter Park were never as bad but Tara were the quicker out of the starting block with a goal and a point from corner forward Yvonne Donnelly who put in a girl of the match performance. A period of battles ensued in the middle of the field and Tara's Meabh Brennan and Rosie Cusack picked up a lot of breaking ball. Sharon McNeela for Croydon did some sterling work also and when she strode for the Croydon goal Tara's backs Bid Grennan and Susi Gill combined to block her path. Hard to control and clear the ball, frees were given away from both sides with Croydon taking one to their advantage and scoring a point shortly before the interval. Croydon could have scored more points from play only for the cool head of Niamh Dolan in the Tara goal. Soaked to the skin both teams were driving to get on the field again for the second half just to finish out the game. An early foul on Helen Murphy allowed her to step up and quickly add another goal to the Tara tally. With Tara's Catherine Higgins on the receiving end of the following Croydon puck out the sliotar was quickly passed in to Angela Kenneally who shot across goal. Denise Gilligan caught the ball and punctured the back of the Croydon net only for the goal to be deemed void for a square ball. Croydon quickly regrouped and a long puck out bounced over the half back line in to Croydons Sarah Butler. Dearbhail O'Neill and Sheila Fernandes in the Tara defence were alert to the danger. Croydon seemed frustrated and Sheila Butler dangerously pulled across Tara's full back Niamh Keating and earned herself a yellow card. In the last five minutes Tara pulled ahead with a further three goals in quick succession from Yvonne Donnelly but there could have been more only for a strong performance from Croydon's centre back Elaine Dunphy. With the final score 5-07 to 0-1 in Tara's favour Tara's were the happier of the teams racing for the showers at the final whistle. Tara Camogie Club: Niamh Dolan, Susi Gill, Niamh Keating, Sheila Fernandes, Catherine Higgins, Bid Grennan, Dearbhaill O'Neill, Meabh Brennan, Rosie Cusack, Angela Kenneally, Denise Gilligan, Joanne Hamilton, Helen Murphy, Yvonne Donnelly, Grace Hamilton, Donna Gallery Referee___ (Sean Treacys) |

| London Senior Championship 2011 ~ Round 2 Saturday 9th July at Tir Chonaill Park Tara 3-13 v 0-03 Fr Murphys |
||||
| It was expected to be a tight encounter when Tara Camogie Club met Fr Murphy's on Saturday, as the last time these two teams met was in last years Championship final in Ruislip. Tara again emerged the victors but this time the match was a very one-sided affair. An early foul on Tara's Catherine Higgins saw Bid Grennan step up to point from a free. With the nerves settled Tara's forward line set about putting Fr Murphy's defence of Liz McGrath, Sinead O Neill and Anne Marie Keogh under fierce pressure. Tara's Helen Murphy scored the only goal of the half and after Fr Murphy's scored a point from a free following a foul on Thressa McConnell the first half finished 1-08 to 0-1. In the second half, Tara's were again quick out of the starting block. Mel Hogan put in a faultless display of goal keeping for Fr Murphy's but could do little with Tara's Rosie Cusack and Meabh Brennan winning the majority of the puck outs and breaking ball in the middle of the park. Fr Murphy's switched Anna Gibson and Sinead Kirk to forwards but this did little to change the flow of play with a strong controlling performance from Tara's Joanne Hamilton and Angela Kenneally and Denise Gilligan added two more goals to the Tara tally. Despite this Fr Murphy's kept battling and Zoe Power and Ruth Foley worked well to put in two quick passes to the forwards and add two further points to the score board. In the dying minutes a Fr Murphy's free was also blocked by Tara's keeper Niamh Dolan and scrambled from the goal line by Tara's Niamh Keating and Sheila Fernandes. Despite a Fr Murphy's revival towards the end of the second half the final score line was 3-13 to 0-3 in Tara's favour. Tara Camogie Club: Niamh Dolan, Susi Gill, Niamh Keating, Sheila Fernandes, Catherine Higgins, Bid Grennan, Ann Gleeson, Rosie Cusack, Meabh Brennan, Yvonne Donnelly, Denise Gilligan, Helen Murphy, Joanne Hamilton, Grace Hamilton, Angela Kenneally, Dearbhail O Neill, Donna Gallery.
